The short version: your camera feed is processed inside your own browser and never sent anywhere. We do not upload, store, or look at a single frame. The only thing that reaches our server is a name you typed and a number of milliseconds.

Your camera

Don't Blink asks for camera permission because it needs to watch your eyes to know when you blink. That watching happens entirely on your own machine.

The blink detection runs on MediaPipe Face Landmarker, a face-tracking model that is downloaded into your browser and executed there. Your video stream is handed to that model in local memory, frame by frame, and is discarded as fast as it arrives. There is no upload endpoint for video on this site. There is no recording. Nothing is buffered for later.

You can verify this yourself without taking our word for it: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and play a full round. You will see the model files being downloaded, and you will see one small request carrying your score. You will not see your video going anywhere, because it never does.

When the round ends, the camera stream is stopped and the permission is released. Closing the tab does the same.

The "proof of blink" image

At the end of a run we show you the exact frame in which you blinked, drawn onto a shareable card. That image is generated in your browser, from the frame already in your browser's memory, and it stays there. Saving it or sharing it is your action, and it goes wherever you choose to send it — not to us.

What we actually store

When you finish a run and a score is saved, our server records exactly three things:

  • The name you typed in the name box. You choose it. Most people type a first name or a nickname; you are free to type anything. Please do not type something you would mind seeing on a public leaderboard, because that is where it goes.
  • The duration of your run, in milliseconds.
  • The date and time the score was recorded.

That is the entire record. No account, no email address, no password, no camera data, no face data, no biometric template. There is nothing to log into, because there are no accounts.

Analytics

We use KipStats, a self-hosted analytics tool, to count visits and understand which pages people read. It records page views, referring site, approximate device type, and whether the visit looks like a human or a crawler. It does not use advertising cookies, does not build a profile of you across other websites, and does not sell anything to anyone.

Third parties your browser contacts

Loading this site causes your browser to fetch files from a small number of external hosts. We list them so nothing is a surprise:

  • cdn.jsdelivr.net — delivers the MediaPipe face-tracking model that makes blink detection work.
  • fonts.googleapis.com — the web fonts used for the layout.
  • kipstats.com — the analytics script described above.
  • cdnjs.buymeacoffee.com — the optional "buy me a coffee" button. It is a link. Nothing happens unless you click it.

Each of those hosts necessarily sees your IP address, as any host does when your browser requests a file from it. None of them receives your camera feed, because your camera feed is never sent to any host at all.

Advertising

This site currently carries no advertising. If that changes, this page will be updated before the first ad is served, and it will say which network is used and what it collects.

Cookies

Don't Blink does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may keep small amounts of local data for the analytics tool described above. Clearing your browser's site data for dontblink.fun removes it.

Children

A staring contest is a playground game, so children play it. That is precisely why this site has no accounts, no sign-up, no email collection, and no advertising profile. The only field a child could fill in is the name box on the leaderboard, and the only sensible advice is the same we would give an adult: type a nickname, not your full name.

Your rights, and how to actually use them

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it. In practice, the only thing tied to you here is a leaderboard row containing a name you chose and a number.

To have a leaderboard entry removed, email yohann@kipdev.io with the name and roughly when it was posted. We will delete it. There is no verification hoop to jump through because there is nothing sensitive to protect behind one — and equally, that means anyone can ask us to remove any row, so do not treat a leaderboard entry as something you own.
